The Area - Latrobe Valley, Gippsland Victoria
With a population of 72,075, the Latrobe Valley is the third most populated regional municipality of Victoria. It encompasses an area of some 1422 square kilometres. The vibrant and highly productive Latrobe Valley is located at the gateway to Gippsland in South-East Victoria, approximately 135 kilometres east of Melbourne or around 70 minutes drive.

Latrobe City is one of Australia’s major provincial centres and is home to regional headquarters for significant government and private organisations. The region is a resource rich area with abundant forest and brown coal resources, water resources, and rich agricultural land. Its dairy and beef cattle industries contribute significantly to Victoria's agricultural standing along with many other industries including the Australian Paper Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Mill, Monash University, Central Gippsland Institute TAFE, the Australian Securities Commission's National Information Processing Centre and Victoria's four major power generators. Latrobe Valley Investments

Gippsland Water Factory. (The first of its kind in Australia).
An innovative wastewater treatment and recycling system, funded by Gippsland Water and the Victorian Government. The Water factory is on target to be operational early 2009.

Latrobe Valley's $750 Million Clean Coal Power Station Project
The $750 million clean coal power station is funded by the Victorian and Federal Government and is expected to generate enough electricity to power 500,000 homes. It is due to be operational by 2012 and will create 300 jobs during construction and 36 ongoing jobs.

Rural Skills in Gippsland
Gippsland farming industry will benefit from a $500,000 Brumby Government investment to boost skills in the region. The project will help farm workers, owners and operators respond to the challenges of farming during the drought.

Tourism Centre in Gippsland
The Brumby Government is providing $360,000 to establish a peak body for tourism in Gippsland. The funding will be a major boost for attracting tourism in the region.

Facelift for Church Street Morwell
The Brumby Government has committed $230,000 to the refurbishment and redevelopment of Church Street Morwell as part of the revitalisation of the town centre under the Transit Cities Program.

Latrobe Valley Development Funding
Local residents in the Latrobe Valley region will benefit from a series of redevelopment projects to strengthen their community due to a $210,000 Brumby Government funding boost. The regional development program is helping key centres in regional Victoria plan for the future growth of their communities.

Paperlinx - Pulp Facility, Maryvale
Installation of an Elementally Chlorine Free (ECF) bleach plant and upgrading the associated pulping facilities. The capital cost is $192 million, and is soon to be completed. The vast majority of Australia and New Zealand’s A4 paper production emanates from this plant.

Hazelwood Power Station
The Victorian Government has approved a $400,000 extension of the Hazelwood electricity generator meaning the plant can continue to provide electricity for the next 25 years.

Hazelwood Power - Coal Drying Technology
International Power is investing in the implementation of pilot brown coal drying technology on Unit 1 at Hazelwood Power Station. The Project has the assistance of substantial funding made available by the Victorian and Federal Governments.

Australian Energy Company Ltd –The AEC Latrobe Urea project
This MULTI billion dollar, clean coal technology project will turn the Latrobe Valley's brown coal into urea fertiliser. The Latrobe Urea Project is set to create 1000 jobs during the construction of a urea plant and up to 180 permanent staff will be based at the plant which will be operational by 2012.

Monash Energy –Coal to Liquids Project
Prospects for Victoria's Latrobe Valley to host a $5 billion synthetic diesel and electricity project have soared after oil major Shell has thrown its money and technology behind the project. A $5 billion energy complex could be built within a decade. Its diesel and other liquids production of more than 60,000 barrels a day would be bigger than the fast-falling liquids production from the ExxonMobil/BHP Billiton Bass Strait oil and gas fields of 50,000 barrels a day.
